Description

1795-1799 is the Directoire period. Dresses are (more or less) inspired by those of ancient Greeks, so they should be tight against the torso, with waistline under the bust and falling loosely below. They are mostly white and have no or little decoration.
Towards the later Directoire, dresses lost some of its volume (though they were still full), waistlines went higher, hair went smaller.

Men wear dark tailcoats, waistcoats and white cravats tied in elaborate ways. Trousers are a fashionable alternative to breeches - light for day and dark for evenings. Hessian boots are a popular option of everyday footwear. Men don't wear swords anymore - they're replaced by walking canes.

Wigs go out of fashion. Some still wear them of course - older, more conservative and traditional men, but most go for natural hair. This is hugely due to Beau Brummell's influence and fueled by Pitt's tax on hair powder.
