Description

In ancient Egypt, women wore close-fitting kalasiris, held in place with straps. The garment was long enough to cover the ankles and it could end below or over the breasts. It was was worn various types of coats. Depending on the period, either wigs or natural hair were favoured. Also, most people went barefoot.

Fashions in ancient Egypt didn't change much thorough the years:
•during te Middle Kingdom jewellery became more prominent
•during the New Kingdom, clothes became more complex, they were adorned with pleats and feathers. Colours were deeper and richer, although diaphonous gowns remained white.

'Also, most people went barefoot.' I can imagine. A river valley, nice soft deep soil, not a lot of rocks... most long-distance travel was by riverboat, not on foot... not a lot of need to protect the feet until you ventured out to the desert! Maybe keep a pair of sandals for trips to the desert... on the other hand, Egyptians did not spend a lot of time out in the desert, except for their monuments, which were right on the edge of the lush green valley! Yeah, simply let your feet be free! Feel the grass and nice soft soil!

Thank you for this picture! I love ancient Egypt, and I love to travel there in my imagination! Just thought I could add a little to the picture!

We are in kind of the same field... most of my writings are preindustrial history too!
