Description
Clothing of 1540s continues styles of 1530s, but waistline is now lower and pointed, Spanish farthingale appears so skirt has support and cuffed sleeves evolve into trumpet sleeves. They are tied in a way to show the chemise, but the white slashed can also be fake. Trumpet sleeves dissapear in 1550s and by the end of the decade, round sleeves come into fashion. Under the dress tightly laced kirtle with a stiffened front is worn. There are no corsets yet.
Men wear shorter tunics, showing hose. Codpieces now emphatise rather than conceal. Sleeves loose their volume.

Those cod pieces always baffled me. Seen a Lanchknetcht at a medieval fair using one. Though his cod piece was more dare I say"erect". Quite a funny piece of clothing indeed. XD
