As the ideas of human rights and enlightment spread, changes the fashion. Dresses now don't have crinolines (the fullness is achieved by many layers of cloth), they're made of simpler fabrics and have less decoration. They are a walking protest against the court - the have long sleeves and cleavage covered with fichu.

Lady on my picture is wearing a robe l'anglaise - closed on the bust, opened wider towards the waist, with the bulk of the skirt at the back.
