Dresses are now supported by bustle and fullness in the skirt moves to the rear. They are heavily trimmed with frills, pleats and lace. Evening dresses have very short sleeves and are worn with short gloves.

Men's formal evening wear consists of tail coat and trousers. Waistcoat is now black rather than white and a white bow tie is being worn. Many men wear some kind of facial hair.

It's a period called "the second rococo".
