Russia 1840 (court)

Two ladies wearing court styles. Official court style was introduced in 1830s. It consisted of a white emboidened dress and a velvet overgown, with long tain and long, open sleeves. Dress was worn with a headdress - Kokoshnik. Kokoshnik was the only piece of traditional clothing that was still worn by noble ladies after the europeanization of Russia by Peter the Great (other traditional clothes had to be discarded in favor of western fashions).
